That time we left to travel the world… with 5 kids

For the last couple years, we have been preparing for our biggest life change since having kids. We’ve sold our house and almost everything we own, and we can fit everything we have in carry-on backpacks. (Yes, even with 5 kids!) It’s been a chaotic, yet totally freeing experience, learning to live so very simply as a family.

The dirty back story of our epic adventure

We’ve been contemplating, we’ve been planning, and we’ve been waiting for the right time since May 2013—actually, long before that. We’ve been living in one spare bedroom (all of us!) for the last nine months. We’ve lost jobs, chosen different sources of income (hello, lovely blog!), gotten pregnant (again), gotten rid of everything, again and again–been in and out of hospital visits (had our 5th baby!), fender benders, round after round of colds and flu bugs, family crisises, and lots and lots of child care (there are 8 kids living in this house now). It’s been all kinds of crazy.

But the time has come, and we feel like all of this—as chaotic as it was—was prep for what we are about to do.

We can’t publicly give all the details of what we’ll be doing during these travel adventures (sensitive areas, helping people that are at risk in many ways), but you can be sure there will be all kinds of travel awesome being shared here with you, our online "family"—and if you want to know more specific info, we will be starting a special newsletter with just those details soon. Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’…
