Three sets of little feet pat the ground behind us. The wheels of two strollers crunch on stray gravel across the path. A breeze whips up a few stray leaves and the girls giggle at the swirl they take. The toddler asks for water, the baby chortles at a passing dog and its owner.
We stop at street corner to pass around water bottles, and ponder what might be in the next quaint row of shops we’ve found ourselves near at this part of town. This could be any city, but today it’s our city. Today it’s our adventure.
Though we’ve been wandering around for close to an hour, the kids are chattering excitedly about “the next park” we might come to. There’s always something to look forward to when you’re exploring. They don’t even realize that my FitBit now states we’ve walked over 5000 steps on this jaunt alone. That’s my definition of a successful exercise routine—when everyone forgets they’re even exercising.
Our family lives for adventures… Whether around the neighborhood or across the world. We explore for the fun of it, and the exercise that results is an awesome byproduct—but you could say we live for the “triple play;” mind, body, soul. Adventuring does it all for us.
What makes you feel better? That’s what Boys & Girls Clubs of America want to know at the beginning of this new year. Triple Play, sponsored by the Coca Cola Company and Amerigroup, gives young people the ability to succeed through a comprehensive health and wellness program that focuses on not just one, but all three of the most important areas. It teaches how small, daily lifestyle changes can have a long-term, lasting impact and change all of our futures for the better.
Say it with me: “I feel better when ________…”
The Triple Play Parents Game Plan gives us as parents tools to help our children develop their mind, body, and soul holistically, preparing them for any challenge they may face in life. It focuses on healthy habits, fun ways to incorporate fitness, and positive personal skills and character.
How do you lead a fulfilling life? Are you helping your kids learn how to do the same? Or if you don’t feel fulfilled, what would you change? Diet? Exercise? Community?
Take a moment to see what BCGA is doing to give young people the tools and awareness to succeed, and how you can do the same.
Even if you don’t make big decisions like traveling across the world like we did, make a small change in your life and the lives of your kids to help them, and you, have a better future. You can find out more about Boys & Girls Clubs across the country on their Facebook, Twitter, and the Triple Play website.
